Four rows of fine silvered bullion copper wire, interlaced with black threading, wrapped in a u-shape, in a chevron formation, with four fire gilt insignias, incorporating a large "E" (Queen Elisabeth) surmounted by a crown and flanked by pips top and bottom, designing the rank as that of Hauptmann (Captain), button hole for uniform attachment, sides and undersides in yellow (gold) wool, severed at the neck end, 42 mm x 119 mm each, extremely fine.
Footnote/Provenance: This set of Epaulettes belonged to Konstantin von Alvensleben, 1866-1943. Born in Posen, retired from Field Artillery Reg. 50 shortly after his service China (China medal), recalled for service in WW1 where he earned the EK2. In WWI he served in Südwestafrika (Elephant Badge). Of note and extreme rarity, he served as a technical advisor in Chile and was only 1 of 36 recipients of the Gold Chile Medal, reserved specifically for "German Instructors". Additionally, he was awarded the Prussian Red Eagle Order with Swords; 3rd Class, as well as the Baden Order of Zahringer Lion, Knight with Swords.
