A posthumous award notice for a Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross (Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes) presented to Luise Clemm von Hohenberg, on behalf of her deceased son, Dieter Hans Clemm von Hohenberg. The letter reads “Dear Madam! The Führer and Supreme Commander of the Wehrmacht has expressed the will to keep the heroism of men alive who have made extraordinary acts of sacrifice and have remained in the field of honor to be a role model for all time. The Führer, following the suggestion of the Herr Reichsmarschall, awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross to his son, the Captain Dieter Clemm von Hohenberg, in recognition of his outstanding bravery. At the same time, with the expression of the sincere sympathy of the Reichsmarschall for the heroic deed of your son, I send you this high distinction and remain yours truly, Generaloberst Loerzer”. The document is dated December 11, 1944, and features the signature of Generaloberst Bruno Loerzer. It measures 297 mm x 209 mm, and was previously folded. In better than very fine condition.
Footnote: Dieter Hans Clemm von Hohenberg was a Hauptmann and Commander of the 2nd Group of the Lehrgeschwader 1. After he did not return from action on June 30, 1944, he was presumed and posthumously promoted to Major and awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross on November 18, 1944. Bruno Loerzer (January 22, 1891 - August 22, 1960) was a decorated fighter pilot of the first war, serving as a Generaloberst in the Luftwaffe during the second war. He was the recipient of the Honour Goblet of the Luftwaffe, the Iron Cross Second Class and First Class, the House Order of Hohenzollern, the Pour le Merite, the Order of the Zähringer Lion, the Military Karl Friedrich Merit Order, the Wehrmacht Long Service Awards (IV Class and III Class), the Sudetenland Commemorative Medal with Prague medal bar, the Clasp to the Iron Cross First and Second Class, and the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross.
