Description
Buckle in silvered white metal illustrating a fouled anchor surrounded by a wreath of laurel leaves on the right end of the belt, unmarked, the buckle measuring 39 mm x 39.3 mm. Belt with a black rayon upper and a pitch black felt underside, smooth finished dark brown leather tab stitched in place on the underside at the left end, the tab with five rows of two holes each for length adjustment and stamped in black ink "105" on the reverse, silvered metal receiving clip and 34.2 mm silvered metal lion fitting with ring on the left side, the fitting maker marked with the Friedrich Linden Co., Lüdenscheid insignia on its reverse, the belt with two bronze sliders and measuring 33 mm x 1,130 mm. Scattered silvering wear on the buckle and lion fitting, four pronounced cracks evident on the reverse, exposing the underlying reinforcing strip. Very fine.

Angolia, who start collecting buckles, belts and brocades from 1944 until around 1990; most of the buckles were obtained from the American and German veterans; most of these buckles present a core of Angolia’s book “Belt Buckles & Brocades of the Third Reich”, published in 2001.
