Footnote: Claude Ulric Hebden was born on May 15, 1883 in Timpelly, Cheshire, England and immigrated to Canada in 1903, settling in the Assiniboia West district of Saskatchewan. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant with the 60th Rifles of Canada (Militia), on February 12, 1915. Hebden signed his Attestation Paper as a Lieutenant with the 46th Infantry Battalion "South Saskatchewan Battalion" on July 9, 1915 at Sewell, Manitoba, at the age of 32, naming his next-of-kin as his wife, Mrs. Elsie Thorpe (Wood) Hebden of the Isle of Man, stating that he had previous service with the 60th Rifles of Canada (a militia unit with Headquarters at Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan), that he was Married with one child and that his trade was that of Real Estate Agent. The Battalion was raised in Saskatchewan with mobilization headquarters at Moose Jaw, under the authority of G.O. 86, July 1, 1915. The Battalion sailed October 23, 1915 aboard the S.S. Lapland from Halifax, Nova Scotia, under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel H. Snell with a strength of 36 officers and 1,115 other ranks, arriving in Devonport, England on the 30th. The Battalion served in France and Belgium with the 10th Infantry Brigade, 4th Canadian Division. From February 12, 1916, he served in the Canadian Machine Gun Corps, Section "A" Cavalry Branch as Commander of the 10th Battalion, Machine Guns and was demobilized in late 1919. He was issued the War Service Badge Certificate, Class "A", number 170299 on October 6, 1919, finishing the war in the rank of Major. He is also listed on the Royal Flying Corps database of Officers and aircrew at airhistory.org.uk . Hebden died on July 9, 1951 in Vancouver, British Columbia.
