British War Medal (405124 L. CPL. W.H. THOMPSON. 35-CAN.IN); Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, 2nd Type (2450 WALTER H. THOMPSON O.L.I.); and Imperial Army and Navy Veterans Badge (sterling silver, marked "STERLING" on the reverse, "IMPERIAL ARMY AND NAVY VETERANS" clasp on the ribbon, 38.8 mm). Naming is officially impressed on the BWM, the naming on the ALSGCM is privately engraved. Un-mounted, original ribbons, semi-dark patinas on the silver awards, contact marks and edge nicks on the ALSGCM, very fine. Accompanied by their 12.5 mm x 95.5 mm Ribbon Bar and a linen folder (stamped with a seal bearing a maple leaf and inscribed "NATIONAL SERVICE COMMITTEE / REPRESENTING THE WOMEN OF CANADA" beside the inscription "CHRISTMAS GREETING TO OUR BRAVE SOLDIERS FROM THEIR CANADIAN HOMES.", 115 mm x 160 mm, snap closure, soiled).
Footnote: Walter Henry Thompson was born on March 2, 1871 in Middlesex, England. He signed his Attestation Paper (405124) with the 35th Infantry Battalion, on April 12, 1915 in Toronto, Ontario, at the age of 44, naming his next-of-kin as his wife, Agnes Mary Thompson of Toronto, stating that he had nineteen years' previous service with the Oxfordshire Light Infantry (2450), that he was Married and that his trade was that of Storekeeper. He survived the war, finishing in the rank of Lance Corporal. For his First World War service, he was awarded the British War Medal. For his long service in the army, he had been previously awarded the Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.
