An envelope sent by Feldpost (German military mail service). The stamp’s date is Apr 28th, 1945, two days before Hitler’s suicide.
The sender is No. 56383 B. The letter B stands for a certain company or battalion. The number is that of the Stab u. 1.-3. Kompanie Feldersatzbataillon 702 (Staff and 1st to 3rd company field replacement battalion), which was part of the 702nd infantry division. It was stationed in Norway, its duties were coastal defense, security, and air raid protection. At the time it was commanded by Generalleutnant (Lieutenant General) Dr. jur. Ernst Klepp (1889–1958).
The recipient is M 54662. The M stands for “Marine”, navy. The number was given to the 5. Räumbootsflottile R 122 (R boats, small vessels built as minesweepers). At the time the fleet was stationed in northern Norway and commanded by Kapitänsleutnant (Captain Lieutenant) Hans Alexy (1919–2007).
