A Named WWII Canadian Battledress

A Named WWII Canadian Battledress - the battledress blouse is wool with a green tinge to the darker khaki colour, giving it that distinctive Canadian-look versus the British version, of which the Canadian one is patterned after. The blouse is adorned with Royal Candian Army Service Corps shoulder flashes, 1st Canadian Army patches and Corporal stripes on both shoulders, with buttondown epaulette straps held in place via metal buttons. The front has two pockets, one on each breast which have decorative straps giving them a pleated-look with metal buttons at the top. Each pocket has a foldover flap and when lifted up, exposes a reinforced buttonhole. When the buttons are fastened, they remain invisible to the eye, covered by the flaps. There once was a ribbon bar above the left breast pocket, as evidenced by black thread remaining and the accompanying photograph but has long since been removed. The front has five metal buttons on the right side, facing five reinforced button holes on the left, similarily covered by a full-length flap, again remaining invisible to the eye. Along the waistline at the front is a strap on the left side, and when fed through the metal belt loop on the right side, ensures a snug fit at the waist. It comes with three red Service Chevrons just above the right cuff and buttondown cuffs with metal buttons, and when fastened, again are invisible to the eye. Inside, there are two cotton pockets, one on either side with side entries. It is stamped on the right pocket, "BATTLE DRESS BLOUSES - SERGE, SIZE 5, HEIGHT 5' 5" to 5' 6", BREAST 36 to 37, TIP TOP TAILORS LTD., DEC (December) 1943", with the Canadian Broad Arrow Production stamp below and is vertically named in black ink "YEATS" to the left of the production stamp. The waistline is reinforced with a 70 mm wide cotton band, with three reinforced buttonholes at the rear. The blouse measures 420 mm across the shoulders and 540 in length overall.
