A silver eight-pointed faceted star, obverse centre featuring an enameled green florid cross in silver gilt, surmounted by an enameled red Royal Crown, presenting an enameled Sacred Heart of Christ on the 12 o’clock arm, the reverse with dual pin assembly, maker’s cartouche of FREDERICO COSTA LISBOA, measuring 84.47 mm (w) x 96.26 mm (h - inclusive of Sacred Heart of Christ), with pleasing patina, well executed enamels, and light enamel wear with loss to centre florid cross, extremely fine.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
