A 1936 Berlin Olympic Games Stereoscopic Book & Glasses

Published in 1936 by Raumbild-Verlag Schönstein, this stereoscopic image album follows the 1936 Summer Olympic Games held in Berlin, Germany. It features cloth covered thick board covers with colourful Olympic rings and title embossed into the front cover, with the rear cover being blank. The backside of the cover houses the stereoscopic picture viewer. The album contains +55 complete pages of German text and 100 numbered stereoscopic prints by Heinrich Hoffmann, each measuring 5 x 2 1/4 inches. 22 of the stereoscopic prints are attached to the pages as issued, with the remaining 78 housed in pockets on the inside of the rear cover. Condition of the prints and the stereoscope are fine, condition of the covers is very good, with some discoloration and browning on the outside covers and along the edges. The spine is in fine condition and holds the album together firmly without loose pages. Footnotes: Raumbild/stereoscopic image - a picture that conveys a 3D-like spatial effect when viewed through the stereo viewer; Heinrich Hoffmann was a German photographer and publisher. He joined the Nazi Party in 1920, and served as Adolf Hitler's official photographer after he took over the party in 1921. He remained in Hitler's inner circle until the end of the war. The United States Army arrested Hoffmann on May 1945 and was sentenced to four years in prison for war profiteering. (C:77)
