A Chief Watch Master Reich Protection Police Tunic

A Chief Watch Master Reich Protection Police Tunic - This tunic is fabricated from green cotton and is trimmed with black wool on the collar and cuffs, with green piping. It is adorned with silver bullion wire and black embroidered shoulder boards with green wool bases, representing the rank of Hauptwachtmeister (Chief Watch Master), displaying two silvered pips each and held in place by silver gilt pebbled buttons. The collar tabs were worn by enlisted men and NCO's alike and are in silver bullion wire with green wool bases. There is a triple hook and eye closure on the collar, ensuring a snug fit at the neckline. The upper left arm has the Feldgendarmerie arm badge sewn in place, which was worn by all ranks of the German Field Police up to the rank of Lieutenant (Leutnant). This particular badge is fabricated from green and black embroidery on a forest green wool base, indicative of an enlisted man or NCO. The front has four pockets, one on each breast which are pleated and one at the waist on both sides, which are covered by flaps with silver gilt buttons at the top. The left breast pocket has two awards attached on the pleat: a 39.3 mm x 48.8 mm bronze DRA 1st Model Sport Badge above a 37.8 mm x 45 mm 1939 Version Wound Badge in Black. There are holes present above this same pocket where an award once resided but has been lost to time. The right breast pocket has a sentry's whistle, fabricated from wood with a painted black finish, attached via a metal chain to the pocket's silver gilt button. The front is completed by a vertical row of eight silver gilt buttons on the right side, facing an equal number of reinforced button holes on the left, trimmed in green piping on both open sides of the tunic. The rear of the tunic is single vented, with elongated straps on either side of the opening, again trimmed in green piping with two silver gilt buttons each. The inside is lined in olive green cotton, with one small pocket at the waist and one at the breast, both on the left side. The sleeves are lined in white cotton with vertical stripes. The tunic measures 440 mm across the shoulders and 715 mm in length overall. There are two holes scattered throughout the tunic indicative of moth invasion, the left side of the collar has had sewing repair and the lining exhibits light wear and discolouration. It displays a nice texture in the cotton, quality workmanship, beautiful, intact stitching other than on the left side of the collar, in very fine condition.
