(Fürstlich Reußisches Ehrenkreuz, III. Klasse mit Schwertern). Instituted 24 May 1869 by Prince Henry XIV. (Issued 1909-1918). A silver Maltese Cross with rays and a set of crossed swords piercing the center of the cross, the obverse with a red enameled central medallion depicting a gold crowned coat of arms of Reuss, surrounded by a gilt ring, the reverse with a black enameled central medallion depicting a gilt crowned royal cipher of Henry XIV, surrounded by a gilt ring, on loop for suspension from its period correct replacement ribbon, measuring 42.23 mm (w) x 46.56 mm (h), weighing 27.3 grams (inclusive of ribbon), in overall near extremely fine condition.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
