Germany, Luftwaffe. A Pewter Stein, by Georg Sturm, 1938

(Luftwaffe Erinnerungskrug). A very well-preserved commemorative Luftwaffe pewter stein. Presenting in a classic Bayreuther Eichala format, it features a stout casing with a curved handle connecting to a lid affixed to a swivel hinge. The lid bears an engraved Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, and is topped by a detailed acorn finial. The sides of the stein bear a number of decorative elements, including engraved inscriptions of “DEINE KAMERADEN DER 10. (E). BAT. 4 JUNI 1938”, with a list of unit members set onto the opposite side. The front features a raised and highly detailed coat of arms of the town of Bayreuth. A raised maker’s mark is visible on the base, reading “BAYREUTHER EICHALA, GG. STURM”, set around the firm’s logo. The interior presents plain with the exception of a partially-legible hand-etched inscription on the lid. The stein measures 105 mm in diameter, with an overall height of 152 mm (inclusive of finial). Some denting is evident near the top of the exterior coat of arms, with minor- age-appropriate scratching visible to other areas. It is in an overall near extremely fine condition.
