A Scarce Anti-Partisan Group of award Documents, to an Obergefreiten Franz Zeissl, serving in Jäger-Regiment 749: award document for Wound Badge – Black Grade (20.3.1943, original signature of an Oberst); award document for Iron Cross 2nd class 1939 (27.3.1944, original signature of General der Gebirgstruppen Karl von le Suire); award document for KWK 2nd class with Swords (30.1.1944, original signature of Oblt. & Battalion Fuhrer); award document for Anti-Partisan Badge – Bronze Grade (1.June 1944, original signature of an Oblt. & kompanie Führer; documents folded, in generally good to fine condition (document for anti-partisan badge on thinner paper and somewhat faded, and usual for this award document). Footnote: The Jäger-Regiment 749 was formed on 1 April 1943 in Croatia, from the remnants of a Grenadier unit. The regiment was part of the 117th Jäger Division, and was actively engaged in battles against Partisans in the western Balkans. From April 1944, the regiment received a pioneer company. As of June 1944, the regiment was deployed in Greece, combating Partisans. In October 1944, the regiment was deployed in Serbia, securing retreat of German Forces from Greece and was involved in heavy fighting against Tito’s Partisans, suffering heavy losses; in the spring of 1945 the regiment continued covering withdrawal of German Forces westward, through Croatia and Slovenia, arriving by the War end in Austria, where it surrendered to US Forces in May of 1945.
