For three decades, eMedals Inc has made an effort to preserve history in all its forms. As historians and researchers, we have managed sensitive articles and materials with the greatest of care and respect for their past and present social context. Description
Description
A unique and well-preserved German-manufactured Czechoslovak M31 steel helmet, constructed of a magnetic molybdenum steel and retaining most of an original olive-drab painted finish. Dual sets of seven ventilation holes are drilled into the helmet at each side. Four additional magnetic metal rivets are fastened evenly across the circumference to secure in place the interior features. Painted onto the peak of the helmet is a mostly intact Czechoslovak tricolour flag, measuring 55 mm (w) x 50 mm (h). The rim of the helmet is fully crimped, providing a smooth edge. Four cork sheets are secured to the interior with the aforementioned rivets, in turn connecting to a period original tan-coloured leather liner with eight fingers. The tip of each finger is perforated with a hole through which is looped a period original drawstring. Notably, an additional padded tan-coloured leather liner is secured to the crown, providing additional comfort for the wearer. The liner also retains a period original two-piece black leather chinstrap, adjusted with a functional magnetic metal buckle. A handwritten black ink inscription which appears to be an owner’s name is located on the right side of the liner, but the helmet is otherwise unmarked. It measures 230 mm (w) x 275 mm (l) x 130 mm (h). Issues consistent with age and field use are evident, and include some loss of paint, fatigue of the leather features, and oxidation of the metal rivets and buckles. It is in an overall better than very fine condition.
