Vatican. An Order Of Our Lady Of Loreto, I Class Cross C.1950

Instituted 1888. 1888-1983 issue. Consisting of a bronze gilt eight-pointed cross in blue enamels, with silver gilt ribbons in each quadrant, superimposed obverse centre applique in white enamels featuring a detailed silver gilded figure of Mother of God of Loretto, reverse centre inscribed BENEMERENTIBUS - QUIBIUS CORDI EST DECOR DOMUS LAVRETANAE on an enameled white background also in silver gilt, measuring 63.82 mm (w) x 78.62 mm (h - inclusive of the integral ring), presenting old gold test on the 6 o’clock arm, with minor lost of gilt, accompanied by original neck ribbon of first class, extremely fine.

Footnote: The Order of Our Lady of Loreto, or Loretto Cross, was founded in 1888 by the president of the Congregation of Loretto with the express approval of the Pope. The Order is awarded to men, as well as women, who converted to a knight of the Holy House of Loretto. The order was unofficially discontinued in 1983.
