United States. A Second World War U.S. Army Airborne Infantry Officer’s Service Jacket for a First Lieutenant

An Army Class A service jacket constructed in olive drab wool and unattributed, with no tailor’s or manufacturer’s label present. The rank is indicated by a single silver bar affixed to each shoulder strap, correctly denoting a First Lieutenant. The lapels are fitted with gilt “U.S.” collar devices paired with crossed rifles insignia, identifying Infantry branch service.
The left shoulder bears a black embroidered AIRBORNE tab with yellow lettering, worn above the shoulder sleeve insignia depicting a white eagle’s head on a black shield, consistent with wartime U.S. Army Airborne divisions. The jacket is fitted with a Second World War French Croix de Guerre fourragère, consisting of a braided red-and-green cord terminating in a metal aiguillette tip, signifying a unit-level French award for gallantry. The right shoulder bears a U.S. Army Airborne Command shoulder patch, indicating assignment within an airborne command formation during the period.
