Description

Measuring at 54 cm (h) x 37.5 cm (w), this wood badge crest features the handwritten dates and battles fought by the Battalion, “FRANCE SEP 1915 / 1916 ST ELOI / 16 YPRES / 16 SOMME .2. / 17. VIMY / 17. OPPY-FRESNOY / CAMBRAI 18 / ELOUGE 18 / A.O.Ocp GERMANY 18-19 / HILL 70 17 / PASSCHENDAELE 17 / AMIENS 18 / ARRAS 18 / CANAL DU NORD 18”. Fastened to the center of the badge with three screws is an insignia for the 25th Battalion of Nova Scotia, consisting of a Maple leaf and measuring 37 mm (h) x 35 mm (w). Underneath the insignia, it reads “KLD. 7/8 MISS. 66 / WND 27/3 / PRNS. 8”. Light contact marks, signs of age, otherwise in extremely fine condition.

Footnote: The 25th Battalion of Nova Scotia was a unit in the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the Great War. It was the second infantry battalion (after the 17th) of ten to be raised in Nova Scotia during the war. The 25th Battalion embarked for Great Britain on 20 May 1915. The battalion was disbanded on 15 September 1920.
