Vatican, Papal State. An Order of St. Gregory the Great, II. Class Knight Commander for Military Merit, c. 1930s

(Ordo Sancti Gregorii Magni/Ordine di San Gregorio Magno). Three piece construction, consisting of a Maltese Cross with ball finials, the obverse with a central blue enameled circular disc bearing the leftward facing bust of St. Gregory, circumscribed “Gregorius Magnus” in capitalized lettering, the reverse with a similar central blue enameled circular disc inscribed “Pro Deo et Principe” (For God and Ruler) in capitalized lettering, circumscribed “Gregorius” in matching capitalized lettering, suspended from a Coat of Arms in gilded silver, on a broad ring for suspension from its original neck ribbon, makers marked on the back of the trophy of arms with "Tanfani & Bertarelli - A”, measuring 55.6 mm (w) x 99.9 mm (l), weighing 44.8 grams, bright and perfect enamels, there is some patina on the trophy of arms of the award, in overall better than very fine condition.
