Description

Instituted in 1942. Obverse center shows symbolic “V” for victory and attached to the arms of the V are American and British flags, top of badge has inscription ‘Nth Africa’ imposed on French flag, bottom shows the inscription “8 Nov 1942”, reverse horizontal bar pin, 44.4 mm (h) x 58.7mm (w), extremely fine condition.

Footnote: This badge was made to commemorate Operation Torch, the Allied invasion of French North Africa in 1942. Torch was a compromise operation that met the British objective of securing victory in North Africa while allowing American armed forces the opportunity to engage in the fight against Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy on a limited scale.
