Instituted 1899. In silver, full size, rim officially British Army impressed 190 TPR: J. H. SULLIVAN. KIMBERLEY LT HORSE with DEFENCE OF KIMBERLEY and ORANGE FREE STATE clasps, worn on replacement ribbon which has been courtmounted on cardboard for presentation, light wear, extremely fine.
Footnote: J. H. Sullivan is on the medal roll for the Queen’s South Africa Medal, with the Defence of Kimberley and Orange Free State clasps. He was discharged on March 6, 1900.
The Kimberley Light Horse was a volunteer mounted unit raised in Kimberley, Cape Colony, in 1899 at the outbreak of the Second Boer War. It played a prominent role in the defence of Kimberley during the siege from October 1899 to February 1900 and later served in field operations in the Cape Colony and Orange Free State. Members of the regiment were entitled to the Queen’s South Africa Medal, often with clasps such as Defence of Kimberley, Cape Colony, and Orange Free State, reflecting their early and active service in the campaign.
