Italy, Kingdom. A Military Order of St. Savior and St. Bridget Cross, Knight Grand Cross Set

Instituted in 1366. Breast Star: In silver, an eight-pointed star superimposed on a Maltese cross in blue enamel with red enameled flame, reverse vertical pinback, 87 mm, in very fine condition. Badge: Maltese cross in blue enamel with red enameled flame, inclusive of crown suspension 93.5 mm (h) x 56.1 mm (w), enamels intact, evidence of some gilt wear on crown suspension, very fine condition. 

Footnote: The Military Order of the Most Holy Savior of Saint Bridget of Sweden was a religious order of chivalry established in Sweden by Saint Bridget in 1366. The Order was approved by Pope Urban V and the main obligation of the knights of this order was to bury the dead, and to protect widows and orphans. The Order was restored in 1859 and is still active today.
