Germany, Wehrmacht. A Spanish Volunteer Medal

(Erinnerungsmedaille für die spanischen Freiwilligen im Kampf gegen den Bolschewismus). Constructed of bronzed zink, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with horizontal pinback, the obverse bearing a central raised sword overlaid by shields bearing raised Heer and Falange insignia, topped by a Stahlhelm, and situated above a swastika flanked by clutches of laurel leaves, the reverse bearing an inscription of “DIVISIÓN ESPAÑOLA DE VOLUNTARIOS EN RUSIA” (“DIVISION OF SPANISH VOLUNTEERS IN RUSSIA”), above an Iron Cross topped by laurel branches, unmarked, measuring 32.44 mm in diameter, weighing 11.8 grams, demonstrating moderate loss of bronze finish throughout in addition to some oxidation of the edge near the loop, in better than very fine condition.
