Description

(Nahkampfspange in Bronze). Constructed of bronzed zink, the obverse consisting of a square oak leaf wreath, topped by a German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, situated above a crossed bayonet and stick grenade, overlaying a magnetic metal backplate, flanked on each side by four rays and four oak leaves with two acorns, the reverse with a crimped hinge and fluted banjo-style pinback meeting a flat wire catch emanating from a circular plate, unmarked but demonstrating the characteristics of a variant credited to Steinhauer & Lück, Lüdenscheid (as examined in “The German Close Combat Clasp of World War II” by Thomas M. Durante, 2019, page 377), measuring 97.21 mm (w) x 25.36 mm (h), weighing 29.4 grams, demonstrating moderate loss of finish to the base metal, in extremely fine condition.
