Germany, Luftwaffe. A Transport and Reconnaissance Clasp, Gold Grade with 1300 Pendant, by Paul Maybauer

(Frontflugspange für Transport- und Luftlandeflieger in Gold mit Anhänger 1300). Constructed of gilded zink, the obverse consisting of a circular laurel wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, overlaid by a Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika while in mid-flight, flanked on each side by nine oak leaves, the lower edge of the wreath with dual loops accommodating a pendant in the form of a plaque bearing a blackened number “1300” flanked by laurel leaves, the reverse with a single rivet securing the eagle in position, with a block hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a round wire catch emanating from a circular plate, unmarked but demonstrating the characteristics of manufacture by Paul Meybauer, Berlin, the clasp measuring 77.15 mm (w) x 25.85 mm (h), the pendant measuring 36.70 mm (w) x 6.68 mm (h), weighing 24.4 grams overall, demonstrating minor to moderate loss of gilt finish, a scarce high-grade clasp in near extremely fine condition.
