Germany, Kriegsmarine. A 3. Schnellboot-Flottille Commemorative Plaque, with S. 136 Dedication

(3. Schnellboot-Flottille Erinnerungsplakette). A well-preserved 3. Schnellboot-Flottille (3rd Fast Boat Flotilla) commemorative plaque, constructed of aluminum, the obverse bearing a map of Europe and North Africa, with land presented in light brown, oceans in light blue, and with silver borders demarcating the two, overlaid by an S-Boat cutting through waves superimposed over Europe, in turn defaced by a palm tree which emanates from the African coat and is in turn flanked by a 1939 Iron Cross, topped by a golden-yellow Kriegsmarine eagle clutching a mobile swastika, unmarked, measuring 10.5 cm (w) x 16 cm (h), accompanied by a handwritten dedication from the crew of S. 136 to their commander, extending best wishes for the vessel’s 12th combat mission, measuring 11 mm (w) x 5.5 cm (h), a scarce and vessel-attributed example in near extremely fine condition.

Footnote: An S-100 Class Schnellboot, S. 136 was commissioned in 1943 and served in the English Channel as part of 4th/5th Schnellboot Flotilla. It was sunk by a group of British and Polish destroyers on 11 June 1944.
