A grouping of two Imperial German awards, consisting of:
1. A Schinkel Version Iron Cross 1914 Second Class. (Eisernes Kreuz 1914 II. Klasse für Kämpfer und Nichtkämpfer). Reinstituted August 5th 1914. (1914-1918 issue). An Iron Cross 1914 Second Class, Schinckel Version, constructed of iron and silver, on a fixed loop and ring for suspension from a period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central initial “W”, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1914”, the twelve o’clock arm with a royal crown, the reverse with three central oak leaves, the six o’clock arm with an initial institution date of “1813”, the twelve o’clock arm with initials “FW” topped by a royal crown, unmarked, measuring 43.2 mm (w) x 43.1 mm (l), weighing 17.32 grams, with pleasant patina from age, in near extremely fine condition.
2. A Mackensen Honour Cross. (Mackensen Ehrenkreuz). Constructed of silvered and gilded bronze with black and white enamels, consisting of a silvered white enameled Cross Pattée with laurels in each quadrant between the arms of the cross, the obverse with the forward facing head of August von Mackensen, surrounded by a black enameled ring circumscribed with “Waffenring Deutscher Kavallerie” in capital lettering, the reverse plain missing its pinback and hinge assembly but with the catch intact, marked “Gesetzlich Geschützt” and “C.H. Arnold, Coburg”, measuring 44.2 mm (w) x 44.9 mm (l), weighing 24.47 grams, with fine cracks in the enamels and missing some of the silver and gold finish, in better than fine condition.
