Description
(Jäger-Regiment zu Pferde Nr. 5 Konvolut). A uniform group named to a member of Jäger zu Pferde Regiment Nr. 5, including:
1. A service tunic, constructed of a smooth field-grey wool cloth. It features a reinforced stand-up collar which is trimmed with light yellow piping and layered on the exterior with smooth dark green wool. The shoulders are flanked by boards which are constructed of dark green wool with rigid card stock cores, trimmed with black piping, topped by braided silver aluminum wire piping interspersed with black threading, and which are pinned with gilded numerals “5” flanked by pips. Each measuring 40 mm (w) x 90 mm (l), the boards are secured in place with stitching at the seam of the sleeve, and with magnetic metal rivets in the inner edge. Both cuffs are rolled up to a depth of 15 cm and secured in place with stitching. It closes with six silvered buttons on the left breast meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the right, while an array of identical buttons formerly in place on the right side have been removed, leaving the left side buttonholes without counterparts. A partial field-grey rayon liner is stitched onto the interior of the upper breasts, with the left side featuring a pocket. Inside is a tailor’s label reading “EDUARD KÜHNE, BERLIN”, with a handwritten owner’s surname of “ROETTECKEN”, and unit attribution of “JÄGER Z. PF. 5” for Jäger zu Pferde Regiment Nr. 5. The tunic measures approximately 40 cm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 56 cm, and an overall length of 92 cm when folded on a flat surface. Extensive material fatigue is visible to the interior liner, with evidence of attempted repair, but the tunic remains in an overall very fine condition.
2. A parade tunic, constructed of a smooth field-grey wool cloth. It features a reinforced stand-up collar which is layered on the exterior with smooth dark green wool, and trimmed with a wide silver alumium wire tresse, bordered by machine-embroidered black piping along both edges, which extends down along the edge of the breast flaps to the bottom of the tunic. The shoulders are flanked by integral silver aluminum wire straps and domed buttons for the accommodation of boards. The cuff of each sleeve is topped by a layer of green wool which is trimmed with identical tresse, and pinned with two domed buttons. The reverse features a central vertical slash which is flanked by scalloped flaps, both trimmed with green piping, and adorned with three domed buttons on each side. The tunic closes with an array of metal clips and loops set into the reverse of each breast flap. A multi-piece field-grey rayon liner fully encompasses the interior, and transitions into a pinstripe design through the arms. Two integral straps culminating in magnetic metal buckles at the waist provide an integral belt. A pocket is set into the upper left breast, and retains a maker’s label reading “EDUARD KÜHNE, BERLIN”, with a handwritten owner’s surname of “ROETTECKEN”, and unit attribution of “JÄGER Z. PF. 5”. Measuring approximately 38 cm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 58 cm, and an overall length of 76 cm when folded on a flat surface. Demonstrating minor soiling and material fatigue throughout, the tunic remains in a better than very fine condition.
3. A pair of trousers, constructed of a smooth field-grey wool cloth. Four magnetic metal buttons are set into the waistband, all appropriately marked “EDUARD KÜHNE, BERLIN”. Two side pockets are set into the upper front thighs, both opening with diagonal slashes which close with magnetic metal buttons that are lined in field-grey cloth. Green piping trims the outer edge of each leg, from the waistband to the ankle. An integral two-piece wool belt is set into the back, fastening closed with a functional magnetic metal buckle, with the reverse of one length retaining a maker’s label reading “EDUARD KÜHNE, BERLIN”, with a handwritten owner’s surname of of “ROETTECKEN”, and unit attribution of “JÄGER Z. PF. 5”. The trousers close with a French fly consisting of three bakelite buttons and a brass clip. A partial white cotton interior liner surrounds the waistband. Measuring approximately 40 cm across the waist, with an inseam of 32 cm, and an overall length of 96 cm when folded on a flat surface, the trousers demonstrate only minor soiling and material fatigue, and remain in a near extremely fine condition.
