Description
Description
(Heer Dolch für Offiziere). A well-preserved Heer Officer’s dress dagger, measuring 40 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 26 cm-long, nickel-plated, magnetic steel blade which retains factory-original sharpening to both the edges and tip. The reverse ricasso bears the classic seated king logo of the firm of Stöcker & Co., Solingen. The blade sits securely within a nickel-plated crossguard, the obverse of which bears a raised Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, with an intact blackened leather buffer pad covering the seam. A single piece of ribbed brown celluloid composes the handle grip, while a rounded pommel decorated with raised oak leaves completes the dagger, and screws in to maintain its structural integrity. Wrapped around the crossguard and pommel is a matching portepee, consisting of a stylized silver aluminum wire acorn suspended from a cord of identical construction. Accompanying the dagger is its original scabbard, constructed of a pebbled and nickel-plated magnetic metal shaft. Dual integral oak leaf bands are situated just below the throat, each with a loop for the accommodation of a hanger. The throat retains a functional spring catch to firmly hold the dagger in place during storage. Issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and includes running marks and tarnishing to the blade (resulting in minor pitting near the tip), as well as minor wear to the nickel of the plated fixtures. The dagger remains in a better than very fine condition.
Accompanying the dagger is a matching hanger, consisting of an aluminum loop with two additional loops emanating from the lower edge. Each in turn accommodates a reinforced field-grey doeskin strap topped by a silver aluminum wire tresse, and adjusted with functional silvered zink buckles presenting as oval oak leaf wreaths. The straps culminate in functional silvered zink spring clips to lock onto the scabbard’s loops. Unmarked, the hanger measures 26 cm in length as presented. Moderate loss of finish is visible throughout the zink fixtures, but the hanger remains in an overall better than very fine condition.
