Description
Description
(Heer Schirmmütze für Offiziere der Fahrtruppen/Nachschubtruppen). A well-preserved Heer Transport and Supply Troops Officer’s visor cap, constructed of field-grey wool with a pronounced whipcord weave. It features reinforced side walls which are lined on the exterior with a dark green wool cap band. Both the top and bottom edges of the band are trimmed with light blue piping, while an additional length of identical piping surrounds the outer edge of the crown. The crown’s internal reinforcement has been removed to give the cap a popular but non-regulation “Sattelform” appearance. Pinned onto the peak is an aluminum insignia consisting of a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 65 mm (w) x 25 mm (h). Directly below the eagle, the centre of the cap band features an additional insignia in the form of a padded dark green wool backer bearing an aluminum tri-colour cockade situated within a silver aluminum wire oak leaf wreath, measuring 65 mm (w) x 40 mm (h). The lower edge of the cap band is flanked by pebbled magnetic metal buttons which accommodate a chinstrap constructed of multiple rows of twisted and rolled silver aluminum wire. A protruding vulcanfibre visor completes the exterior features, and is finished in black on the obverse and in brown on the reverse. The interior is encompassed by a blue-grey rayon liner, while a wide brown leather sweatband surrounds the interior of the walls. The crown retains an intact transparent plastic moisture guard. Stamped black ink numerals “1205” are visible on the crown, while the guard is also flanked by presumed owner’s initials. Otherwise unmarked, the cap measures approximately 23 cm (w) x 28.5 cm (l) x 16.5 cm (h). Issues consistent with age and field wear are evident, and include minor and sporadic material fatigue to the exterior wool, some wear to the cockade insignia, some wear to the visor stitching with possible repair, and soiling throughout the interior liner. The cap remains in a very fine condition.
