Description
Description
(Heer Schirmmütze für Mannschaften der Flak/Artillerie). A very well-preserved Heer Flak/Artillery EM/NCO’s visor cap, constructed of field-grey wool. It features reinforced side walls fully lined on the exterior with a dark green wool cap band. Both the top and bottom edges of the cap band are trimmed with red wool piping, while an additional length of identical piping surrounds the outer edge of the crown. Pinned onto the peak is a silvered zink insignia consisting of a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 65 mm (w) x 25 mm (h). Pinned onto the centre of the cap band is a multi-piece aluminum wreath and cockade, measuring 65 mm (w) x 40 mm (h). The lower edge of the cap band is flanked by blackened magnetic metal studs, accommodating a multi-piece black leather chinstrap, itself adjusted with dual functional blackened magnetic metal buckles. A protruding vulcanfibre visor completes the exterior features, and is finished in black on the obverse and in beige on the reverse. A multi-piece beige rayon liner encompasses the interior, while a wide brown leather sweatband surrounds the walls and is perforated across the forehead with ventilation holes. The crown retains an intact transparent plastic moisture guard which bears the silvered manufacturer’s logo of G.A. Hoffmann, Berlin, above the company’s “ELITE” mark. A slot set into the guard retains a paper label bearing a handwritten owner’s name of “UFFZ. STRANIMAIER”. The cap measures approximately 24 cm (w) x 27.5 cm (l) x 15 cm (h). Issues consistent with age and field wear are evident, and include minor and sporadic material fatigue throughout both the exterior and interior material, some loss of finish to the eagle, bending of the side walls, and loosening of the interior liner stitching. The cap remains in an overall better than very fine condition.
