France. A Post 1945 Legion of Honour, Knight by Bertrand

Instituted May 19 1802. An exhibition piece made by Bertrand, representative of several time periods, composed of silver gilt with enamels, a five armed Maltese cross with segments of wreath in each quadrant, the obverse medallion featuring a right facing profile of Napoleon encircled by a blue ring inscribed NAPOLEON EMP. DES FRANCAIS, the reverse medallion bearing an eagle encircled by a blue ring inscribed HONNEUR ET PATRIE, the medallions are representative of the Second Empire, marked on the ring A B & Cie denoting Bertrand manufacture, measures 38.4 mm (w) x 41.5 mm (h - including of ball suspension), no crown or wreath suspension indicative of the Second Republic type, accompanied by a replacement ribbon, enamels intact, in very fine condition.
