Description
(Nishani Iftihar). Instituted by the Sultan of Turkey in 1853. Type 3. In silvered bronze, obverse cipher
of Sultân Abdül-Mejîd I above the date ‘1270’ (AH1270 = 1853AD) within a circle imposed on a laurel
wreath and arrows(?). Atop is a crescent moon and six-pointed star. Reverse shows a six-pointed star
imposed on a twelve-pointed star above the inscription “Nishani Iftihar”. Green and red ribbon with
crossed swords and date. Good condition, tiny blue mark on reverse.
Footnote: The Medal for Glory, also called the “Danube Medal” was awarded to officers and men of
British forces for participation in the Danube Campaign in the Crimean War with Russia.
