Netherlands, NSB. A Rare Mussert Cross for Combatants

 (Mussertkruis). Constructed of gilded bronze with multi-coloured enamels, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with horizontal pinback, consisting of a Maltese Cross with black and red enameled arms and with crossed swords piercing the centrepiece, the obverse overlaid by a central white enameled medallion bearing a gilt swastika defaced by a Wolfsangel, situated above a semi-circular oak leaf wreath, the reverse overlaid by a central white enameled medallion bearing a gilt inscription of “MUSSERT 1941”, circumscribed by an inscription of “HOU EN TROU” (“LOYAL AND TRUE”), unmarked, measuring 38.00 mm (w) x 40.23 mm (h), weighing 25.0 grams (inclusive of ribbon), demonstrating flecking and fine cracking throughout the enamels (with no evident loss of enamels as a consequence), a scarce decoration in better than very fine condition.
