(Ordre de Saint-Charles). Instituted 1858. An Officer's Badge in 18K Gold consisting of a white Maltese Cross with red bordering, ball finials, green enamelled laurels in each quadrant, obverse centre with the royal cypher in Gold with Latin Motto Princeps et Patria (Leader and Country) surround, reverse centre with an red and white enamelled centre and Latin motto surround Deo Juvante (God Help), measures 39.9mm (w) x 65.0mm (h – inclusive of cross adorned crown), weighs 17.8 grams (including ribbon), worn on an original ribbon with large rosette and hook on reverse, small enamel hairline fractures, however a beautiful decoration in extremely fine condition.
Contained in a very uniquely hourglass shaped case, a black leatherette exterior with the crowned cypher impressed on the lid, the interior lid marked Ch. Bronfort MONACO, with a raised blue velvet medal bed with structured section for ribbon, measures 85mm (w) x 135mm (l) x 45mm (d), light scuffs and discolouration to exterior, hinge and clasp functional, remains in near extremely fine condition.
