(Ordre de la Couronne de Chêne). Instituted in 1841. Multi-piece construction, in silver gilt with green and white enamels, French-made, measuring 50.2 mm (w) x 55.8 mm (h) inclusive of its laterally-pierced ball suspension, on its full-length original neck ribbon, intact enamels, extremely fine. In its hardshelled case of issue, dark green paper exterior, padded white cloth inside lid, recessed black felt medal bed, scuffing present on the exterior, wear evident in the fabric overlying the hinged area, case fine.
Footnote: The Order of the Oak Crown was instituted on December 29, 1841 by King William II of the Netherlands, Grand Duke of Luxembourg. It is awarded for civil and military services and for artistic achievement, in five grades: Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer and Knight, along with medals in Gold, Silver and Bronze Grades.
