(Ordre de Mérite civil et militaire d’Adolphe de Nassau). Instituted 1858. In silver gilt, a Maltese cross with white enameled arms and ball finals, the obverse centre bears the letter "A" in Gold in Gothic script, crowned by an imperial crown, with blue enamel surround depicting laurels and the motto "Virtute", the reverse centre applique presents the dates "1292" (the year that Adolf of Nassau-Weilburg was crowned as King of the Romans) and "1858" (order institution date by Adolphe, Duke of Nassau), suspended from a crown bearing delicate pebbles on the arches, measures 37.9 mm (w) x 61.9 mm (h), weighs 30.6 grams (including ribbon), marked on ring with A B & Cie denoting Arthus Bertrand manufacture, worn on original ribbon with large rosette and two pins for secure wear on the reverse, enamels intact, light gilt wear around the crown, in extremely fine condition.
Contained in a hardshell blue leatherette case, featuring a white silk lid with blue velvet medalbed, hinged at the base to allow for ribbon storage, unmarked, measures 73 mm (w) x 140 mm (l) x 38 mm (d), loss of silk over the interior hinges, catch functional, light wear to exterior, remains in very fine condition.
