Latvia, Republic. An Order of Lāčplēsis, Third Class Knight's Cross, c.1925

 (Lāčplēša Kara ordenis)  (Order Of The Bear Slayer). Instituted 1919. 1919-1940 Issue.  In bronze gilt, a white enameled Thunder and Fire Cross with red and golden edging, centre obverse featuring a medallion with the folk hero Lāčplēsis wrestling with a bear, reverse presenting the date 11 November 1919, the date when the Latvian Army expelled the troops of Pavel Bermondt-Avalov from Riga, with the date is also engraved motto of the order "Par Latviju" (For Latvia), impressed with issue 808, measuring 38.5 mm x 42.5 inclusive of its integral suspension,light contact and gilt wear overall, on original ribbon as worn, very fine.
