(Medaglia a ricordo dell'Unità d'Italia). Instituted in 1883, revised in 1922. Type II (1848-1918). In bronze, maker marked "MARIO NELLI INC." and engraver marked "C. RIVALTA MOD." on the obverse, marked "CBC" on the reverse, measuring 31.7 mm (w) x 38 mm (h) inclusive of its integral suspension, edge nicks, bruised, light contact, original ribbon, very fine.
Footnote: The Type II version of the Commemorative Medal for the Unification of Italy was instituted on January 19, 1922 by Royal Decree No. 1129 and awarded to all those who had received the commemorative medal for the Italian-Austrian War. This war represented the accomplishment of Italian Unification, which began during the Italian Risorgimento. Decree No. 1362 of October 19, 1922 subsequently allowed coinage and sale of the medal to the National Association of Mothers and Widows of War Fallen, later renamed the National Association of Families of War Fallen and Missing Soldiers.
