(Basilikon tagma toy Georgioy A). Instituted in 1915. Two-piece construction, insignia in silver with red and white enamels, mounted to a silver four-pointed star base, each star point with eleven emanating rays, maker marked "SPINK & SON Ltd. / 5, 6 & 7, KING STREET St. JAMES'S LONDON / EST. 1772 / MEDALISTS TO THE LATE KING GEORGE VI" on the reverse cartouche plate, measuring 74 mm (w) x 74 mm (h), vertical pinback, chipping and loss evident in the white enamels of the cross on the insignia, very fine.
Footnote: The Royal Order of George I was instituted on January 16, 1915 by King Constantine I. It was discontinued by the state in 1973 and Replaced by the Order of Honour, but continues as a dynastic order of the former Greek royal family, awarded to those who had distinguished themselves for the cause of the nation, in five grades, in military and civil divisions, plus a medal in three classes.
