A First World War trio for Army Chaplains’ Department service, including a 1914-15 Star, dedicated to “”REV: H.E. COX A.C.D.”; a British War Medal, dedicated to “REV. H.E. COX”, and; a Victory Medal, dedicated to “REV. H.E. COX”, all swing mounted for wear with a horizontal pinback, accompanied by facsimile paperwork, demonstrating some toning to the medals, in near extremely fine condition.
Footnote: Herbert Ernest Cox was born in April 1869 to parents Edward Ernest and Elizabeth (née McGregor), and baptized at the Church of England parish of St Mary Magdalen, Bermondsey, on 4 July of that year. Later converting to Roman Catholicism, Cox was ordained as a priest on 23 December 1899. He is listed in The Catholic Directory as a member of the Institute of Charity, otherwise known as the Rosminians. Cox was commissioned as a Temporary Chaplain to the Forces 4th Class on 22 September 1915, and was posted to Egypt, where he was attached as spiritual counsel to Nagiel Hospital, Cairo. Surviving the war, Cox returned to England. He later resided at Rose Cottage, Wye, Kent, where he remained a priest.
