Germany, Heer. A Rare Cholm Shield, with Award Document, to Gefreiter Karl Moser

(Ärmelschild Cholm mit Verleihungsurkunde). Constructed of stamped magnetic steel, the obverse consisting of a shield bearing a German national eagle perched on top of a Cross Pattée defaced by a mobile swastika, in turn situated above an inscription of “CHOLM 1942”, the reverse retaining all three original attachment prongs, affixing the shield to a magnetic steel backplate with an intact paper liner and field-grey wool liner indicating Heer issue, unmarked, the shield measuring 39.76 mm (w) x 65.21 mm (h), accompanied by its original award document, named to “GEFR. KARL MOSER”, of Infanterie-Regiment 386 (218 Infanterie-Division), awarded on 31 October 1942 and certified by the handwritten signature of then-Generalmajor Theodor Scherer (Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, 20 February 1942; with Oak Leaves, 5 May 1942), measuring 13.5 cm (w) x 20 cm (h), demonstrating moderate surface oxidation to the base metal of the shield and backplate, an exceptionally rare matching award set, in near extremely fine condition.
