Germany, DRK. A Cross of Honour, II Class, by Gebrüder Godet

(Ehrenzeichen des Deutsches Roten Kreuz, II. Klasse).Instituted 30 January 1934 by Duke Carl Eduard of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. (1937-1939 issue). Constructed of gilded bronze with multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a Geneva Cross with white enameled arms, the obverse bearing a central German Red Cross- (DRK) style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika executed in multi-coloured enamels with feathering and details highlighted in gilt, the twelve o’clock arm topped by a ball finial through which is loop a suspension ring retaining a period original ribbon, unmarked but demonstrating the characteristics of manufacture by Gebrüder Godet, Berlin, measuring 39.94 mm (w) x 44.38 mm (h), weighing 20.0 grams, demonstrating some flecking and discolouration to the enamels with a small chip to the obverse twelve o’clock arm and fine surface cracking to the reverse centrepiece, in better than very fine condition.
