Description
Description
(Sturmabteilung Dienstdolch M33). A well-preserved Sturmabteilung (SA) Model 1933 Service Dagger, measuring 37 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 22.5 cm-long, nickel-plated, magnetic steel blade which retains factory-original sharpening to the tip and edges. The obverse bears an acid-etched inscription of “ALLES FÜR DEUTSCHLAND” (“EVERYTHING FOR GERMANY”) in Fraktur script. A transitional maker’s mark is visible on the reverse ricasso, consisting of the classic “TIGER” logo of Lauterjung & Co., Solingen, situated above a Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM) logo and code of “M7/68” for the same manufacturer. The blade sits securely within a multi-piece hilt, featuring a nickel-plated upper crossguard which is marked with eight notches, distributed in groups of four at both the top and bottom. The handle grip is composed of a single piece of lacquered dark brown wood, which is carved into a curvature for a comfortable grip. Inset into the obverse of the handle is a silvered German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 25 mm (w) x 15 mm (h). Also inset into the obverse pommel is a partially-silvered SA insignia measuring 9 mm in diameter. The dagger completes with a nickel-plated lower crossguard, similarly marked with eight notches, retaining a rounded pommel nut which screws in to maintain the dagger’s structural integrity. It is accompanied by its original scabbard, constructed of a brown painted magnetic metal shaft with plated magnetic metal fixtures secured to both the tip and throat. The latter features an integral loop for the accommodation of a hanger. A functional spring catch situated within the throat firmly holds the dagger in place during storage. Minor issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and include some running marks to the blade, minor loss of nickel plating to the hilt and scabbard fixtures, denting of the scabbard tip, and restoration of finish to the scabbard shaft. This transitional example remains in a near extremely fine condition.
