(Eisernes Kreuz 1939 I. Klasse). A textbook example of an Iron Cross 1939 First Class by Fritz Zimmermann of Stuttgart. Consisting of a Cross Pattėe of multi-piece construction with a blackened iron core (magnetic) within a ribbed border, the obverse with a raised central mobile swastika with the re-institution date “1939” in raised numbering on the lower arm, the reverse is plain, with a barrel hinge, a slender banjo-style vertical pinback, and a rightward-opening round wire catch, maker marked “6.” on the pin for manufacture by Fritz Zimmermann in Stuttgart - also displaying Zimmermann’s typical die-flaw in the form of an indent in the ribs in the center of the three o’clock arm, measuring 44.2 mm (w) x 44.0 mm (l), weighing 17.97 grams, beautiful dark patina on the frame, in near very fine condition.
