Germany, Federal Republic. A German Social Welfare Decoration, II Class Cross with Case, Exhibition Example by Souval c. 1970

(Ehrenzeichen für deutsche Volkspflege II. Klasse mit Etui, Museumsstücke). Constructed of gilded bronze with multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a Geneva Cross, the obverse with white enameled arms, bearing a central German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika executed in black enamel with gilt highlights, the reverse with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat catch, unmarked but demonstrating the characteristics of a high-quality example produced for recipient replacement and collector display by the firm of Rudolf Souval, Vienna, c. 1970, measuring 52 mm (w) x 52 mm (h), accompanied by its original presentation case, constructed of a pressed card stock frame with a faux maroon leather exterior liner, the interior with a white rayon lid liner and intact hinge cover, with a slotted maroon felt medal bed, closing with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release, unmarked, measuring 75 mm (w) x 80 mm (l) x 25 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
