France, II Empire. A Rare Reduced Size Military Medal

 A Military Medal. Silver laurel wreath wrapped around a golden medallion topped by a silver gilt imperial eagle, obverse center medallion bearing the left profile of Emperor Napoleon III, surrounded by a blue enameled ring with the inscription LOUIS-NAPOLEON, reverse center medallion bearing the inscription VALEUR ET DISCIPLINE, on original ribbon, evidence of gilt wear, measures 22.8 mm (w)  x 39.6 mm (h), marked with boars head on the edge of the eagle wing denoting silver composition and French manufacture post 1838, enamel damage to the medallion on obverse and reverse, rare in this reduced size, very fine condition.
