Description

(Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur, Chevalier). Instituted in 1802. Type I. (1806-1813). An early Legion of Honour in silver, featuring a white Maltese cross with segments of green laurel and oak leaf, the obverse medallion in 18 K Gold featuring a right facing portrait of Napoleon encircled by a blue ring inscribed NAPOLEON EMP. DES. FRANCAIS, the reverse medallion features an eagle with outstretched wings, encircled by a blue ring inscribed HONNEUR ET PATRIE, surmounted by a silver crown, measures 37.3 mm (w) x 55.0 mm (h), weighs 17.80 grams including ribbon, worn on a small segment of original red ribbon (faded and soiled), light enamel wear to wreaths, otherwise a lovely decoration in near extremely fine condition.
