Germany, Heer. A Cowhide Tornister, with RZM Label, by Sattlerwarenfabrik Xela

(Heer Tornister). A well-preserved Heer Tornister (knapsack), constructed of a reinforced field-grey cotton cloth shell with black leather edge reinforcements. The reverse is fully lined in brown cowhide with hair that presents remarkably intact. It features two blackened leather shoulder straps which retain all functional magnetic metal buckles and clips for the inclusion of additional uniform accessories. A flap opens to reveal a multi-compartment interior with additional strap and buckle closure. The exterior leather reinforcement is marked marked “XELA, AUGSBURG” for the Augsburg-based firm of Sattlerwarenfabrik Xela, while the interior retains a fully-intact Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM) label, correctly issued for a Tornister, which bears a maker code of “L3/69”. The knapsack measures approximately 31 cm (w) x 36 cm (h). Demonstrating only minor signs of wear and fatigue, this untouched example of field gear remains in an extremely fine condition.
