Cuba, Republic. A Group of Four Security and Border Protection Awards

1. (Medalla Por la Protección de las Fronteras), gilt bronze circular medal depicting a border guard with rifle and dog under a rising sun above the inscription “POR LA PROTECCIÓN DE LAS FRONTERAS” (“For the Protection of the Frontiers”), the reverse featuring the Cuban coat of arms and the inscription “REPUBLICA DE CUBA CONSEJO DE ESTADO” (“Republic of Cuba, Council of State”), suspended from a pentagonal ribbon of green with a central red stripe, accompanied by its matching ribbon bar, 30.2 mm wide x 35.1 mm tall including suspension ring, better than fine.

2. (Medalla Por la Seguridad del Orden Interior Primera Clase), silvered bronze circular medal with a raised five-pointed star within a laurel wreath enclosing the inscription “POR LA SEGURIDAD DEL ORDEN INTERIOR” (“For the Security of Internal Order”), the reverse featuring the Cuban coat of arms and the inscription “REPUBLICA DE CUBA CONSEJO DE ESTADO” (“Republic of Cuba, Council of State”), suspended from a pentagonal ribbon of light green with a central white stripe, accompanied by its matching ribbon bar, 30.2 mm wide x 35.1 mm tall including suspension ring, better than fine.

3. (Medalla Por la Seguridad del Orden Interior Segunda Clase), similar to the preceding class but with reversed ribbon colours of olive green with an outer white stripe, the obverse bearing the same inscription “POR LA SEGURIDAD DEL ORDEN INTERIOR” (“For the Security of Internal Order”), and the reverse with “REPUBLICA DE CUBA CONSEJO DE ESTADO” (Republic of Cuba, Council of State), suspended from a pentagonal ribbon and accompanied by its matching ribbon bar, 30.2 mm wide x 35.1 mm tall including suspension ring, better than fine.

4. (Insignia “Brigadas Populares de Urgencia – 5 Años), circular gilt and enamel badge displaying the red and black emblem of the BPU centred by a gilt star and the inscription “BRIGADAS POPULARES DE URGENCIA” (People’s Emergency Brigades), surmounted by a gilt bar inscribed “5 AÑOS” (“5 Years”) in red enamel, screw-back construction, 27.4 mm in diameter, extremely fine.

Footnote: These medals were instituted by the Republic of Cuba to recognize distinguished service rendered by members of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) in safeguarding the nation’s borders and maintaining public order. The Medalla “Por la Protección de las Fronteras” rewarded border-guard personnel for exceptional duty and discipline, while the Medalla “Por la Seguridad del Orden Interior” recognized merit in law enforcement and internal security. The Insignia “Brigadas Populares de Urgencia – 5 Años” was awarded for five years of dedicated participation in the volunteer emergency brigades under MININT authority.
