Cuba, Republic. A Group of Five Civil and Labour Distinctions

1. (Distinción “José Ramón Martínez”) a gilt metal José Ramón Martínez Distinction awarded for twenty-five years of service displaying on the obverse his portrait set before a five-pointed star and his name, the reverse showing the emblem of the Sindicato Nacional de Trabajadores de la Industria Ligera with the inscription “SIND. NAC. DE TRABAJADORES DE LA INDUSTRIA LIGERA – CUBA”, translated as “National Union of Workers of the Light Industry – Cuba”, suspended from its original light-blue ribbon with central red stripe and complete with its ribbon bar, measuring 30.4 mm x 35 mm.

2. (Distinción “Álvaro Barba Machado”) an Álvaro Barba Machado Distinction in gilt metal displaying on the obverse his portrait above a laurel branch within a beaded border, the reverse bearing the emblem of the issuing body with the inscription “CUBA”, suspended from its original ribbon and complete with its ribbon bar, measuring 30.2 mm x 35 mm.

3. (Distinción “Ramón Antonio Briones Montoto”) a Ramón Antonio Briones Montoto Distinction in gilt metal displaying on the obverse his portrait within a raised wreath, the reverse with the emblem of the Sindicato Nacional de Trabajadores de la Industria Química, Minería y Energética and the inscription “SNTIQME”, suspended from its original ribbon and complete with its ribbon bar, measuring 30.3 mm x 35.1 mm.

4. (Medalla por Diez Años de Servicios) a ten-year service medal in gilt metal displaying on the obverse the national coat of arms within a starburst, the reverse inscribed “REPÚBLICA DE CUBA DIEZ AÑOS DE SERVICIO”, suspended from its original ribbon and complete with its ribbon bar, measuring 30.1 mm x 35.2 mm.

5. (Distinción del SNTMMPP) a gilt metal Distinction of the Sindicato Nacional de Trabajadores de Marina Mercante Puertos y Pesca displaying on the obverse the anchor-and-gear emblem of the merchant marine and port and fisheries workers, the reverse inscribed “SNTMMPP”, suspended from its original ribbon and complete with its ribbon bar, measuring 30.4 mm x 34.8 mm.

Footnote: These distinctions and service medals were issued by various Cuban national labour unions and civil institutions from the late twentieth century onward. Each corresponds to a specific professional sector—ranging from light industry and chemical-mining-energy workers to the merchant marine, ports, and fisheries—and reflects the Cuban system of recognizing longevity, merit, and contributions within organized labour. The portrait medals honour notable Cuban figures associated with their respective unions or professional fields, while service medals mark defined periods of employment and institutional commitment.
